Janet Kupchick

Janet fell in love with letterpress printing nearly two decades ago, when she handled wood and metal type for the very first time. She has taught traditional letterpress at Otis College of Art and Design and ArtCenter College of Design for years. Branching out into alternative printing methods (Pressure Printing) and Type as Image (using Letterforms to create characters and imagery) has kept her work fresh, as she continues to push the capabilities of this art form. She has collaborated on a few artist books that are in libraries and private collections, and she also produces her own line of greeting cards.

Glenn Laird

Glenn Laird is a life long aficionado of all things graphic, who has been working in the industry since he was a teenager. During his 39-year career a graphic arts instructor at Eagle Rock High, Glenn watched with great pride as his students won awards and moved into careers in the industry. Perhaps most notably, he mentored seven state-level Graphics champions who went on to compete at the national-level SkillsUSA competition. Glenn has a special passion for screen printing, especially on fabrics. Since his retirement, he indulges his graphic muse by teaching, volunteering, and watching students have those glowing moments when they print something they truly adore.

After studying in London, his design career has taken him to New York, Dallas, and eventually Los Angeles. Since 1991, he’s taught design and typography at several top institutions around the country. Along with James Wojtowicz, Graham is the co-found of Collage Garage, a workshop focused on mixed-media art. His work incorporates bold lines, organic shapes, and color, and he loved to inspire others through his workshops and teaching.

Selena Matranga

Selena Matranga is a Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist working in book arts, sculpture, video, and social practice. Her work explores cycles of waste and utility, drawing from emotionally charged, site-specific narratives to elevate overlooked materials and spaces. Through tactile processes and poetic inquiry, she investigates how memory, grief, and cultural value are embedded in everyday environments. She holds a degree in Book Arts from Mills College and has worked with institutions dedicated to print and publication.

Jocelyn Webb Pedersen

Jocelyn Webb Pedersen is an artist and fine press printer whose work explores the connections between poetry, place, and materiality. Since 1997, she has produced limited-edition books and prints under her imprint, Sierras Press, which are held in both institutional and private collections around the world. Jocelyn uses handmade inks, watercolors, and ceramic oxides created from foraged botanical and mineral materials—bringing place and material into direct conversation. “I believe all humans are creative and that being makers is our birthright… By making artwork with wild pigments and teaching others to do the same, we deepen our connection to the land on which we live.”

Heather Peters

Heather Peters is an artist and writer living in Los Angeles whose work explores the ideas of time, ecology, and materiality through an investigation into the historical, physical, and scientific nature of art materials, working with time-based materials such as hand-bound books, handmade paper, chromatography, video, and cyanotype. She studied illustration at Art Center College of Design, worked at Magnolia Editions, and received a dual-thesis masters in Creative Writing and Book Art from Mills College in Oakland, California, and has held teaching appointments at San Diego State University and Occidental College.

According to Erin, “Marbling is unpredictable and exciting, which makes teaching it a new adventure every time!”

She worked for the City of Los Angeles as a calligrapher and has done contract work for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Graphic Arts calligraphy division. Jane is a long-time Society for Calligraphy Southern California member who serves on the board, coordinates outreach events, and teaches many workshops for the SfC, other guilds in the U.S., and has taught at four international calligraphy conferences.

Judi Tentor

Judi Tentor lives near the ocean in San Diego, and her work resides at the intersection of art and environmental issues. She creates artist books, sculptures, and prints using multiple media, including historic photo processes, paper-making, ink, silkscreen, letterpress, gouache, assemblage, and found objects. Her strategy as an artist is to observe, research, and describe difficult problems we are facing. Her hope as a teacher is to draw students into the deep blue of cyanotype photographic prints, to help them create vibrant botanical prints, and to learn fundamental bookbinding techniques.

Lorna Turner

Lorna Turner wears many hats: educator, graphic designer, and practicing artist. She holds a Master’s degree in Visual Communication from the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London, UK, and a BFA from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
