This course is an in-depth, two-day workshop exploring the basics of papermaking, including sheet forming, fiber preparation, and how to dry paper. We will discuss historical practices as well as contemporary techniques, all while creating beautiful paper that can be used for printmaking techniques, drawing or painting, as well as stand-alone artwork.
We will work with a few different varieties of paper pulp and discuss the differences, history, and sources of papermaking materials. Students will leave with a deeper understanding of this important process, as well as a collection of lovely handmade paper.
No experience is necessary, though an experienced paper maker will still enjoy the creative process and access to materials. All materials provided.
