This workshop will expose you to the basics of screen printing on textiles! You’ll learn how to choose the appropriate type of ink for your project, as well as which screens, squeegees, and other tools work best. You will learn what it would take to set up your own home-based printing lab. You have a choice of water-based inks, popular with home-based printers, and plastisol inks, most common with commercial printers. Learn the pros and cons of each ink system.
You’ll also learn how photo stencils work, have the opportunity to cut your own stencil & print custom-designed shirts, and try puff, metallic foils, and other specialty inks that produce effects that can't be duplicated with digital printing methods. Finally, you’ll experience a printing demo on carousel screen presses. There are a variety of ways to print, from ultra-low-budget methods to commercial machines.
This is a small class to ensure you have a fantastic experience, with tons of tips and tricks. No experience required; beginners are welcome! All screen printing supplies (screens, ink, etc.) are included with your workshop fee, but be sure to bring plenty of cotton shirts (5-15) to experiment with! You can print on other cotton-based materials such as raw cloth, bandanas, and towels. It is a very informal class with lots of variety.
Lunch is on your own; take a break whenever you want. Age 18+
