Non-Adhesive Bindings

Clamshell Box Making

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to create a clamshell box designed to protect and showcase artist book projects. Using pre-cut materials, the session will guide participants step-by-step through the process of assembling a small single-wall clamshell box. Demonstrations will cover measuring and cutting techniques, providing a foundation for creating future boxes independently. A selection of book cloths will be available for personalization.
Cyanotype Prints & Book Making

Explore the art of cyanotypes by making prints and books in this two-day workshop! Participants will learn how to make blueprints using this historic analog photo process, then bind the prints using a Drum Leaf method of book binding. We meet at mid-day, when the sun is the strongest for best exposure times, for ‘plein air’ cyanotype printing, to create compositions from seaweed and other objects. In the second session we will bind together 5 prints using a Drum Leaf binding method.
Participants are encouraged to bring flat objects such as keys, plant leaves and flowers, tools, lace, stencils, twine, and/or translucent things.
Exposed Spine Bindings

Japanese Stab Binding

Learn about the art of Japanese bindings. In this half-day workshop, participants will create a trio of hand-made books with Japanese stab bindings. Using a variety of beautiful decorative papers, each participant will create books unique to them. This workshop is perfect for all skill levels. All materials provided.
Pop-Up Book Making

Make It Pop! In this workshop, participants will learn five introductory styles that are foundational for exploring more complicated paper engineering. We'll also add a "wow" factor by using color to enhance the shapes and shadows formed by paper dimensionality! Beginners welcome. All materials provided.
Refillable Traveler’s Journal

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll create your own classic, refillable leather journal. You'll build a durable cover and craft custom notebook inserts designed to slide in and out with ease. Inside, you can add whatever feels meaningful to you: ephemera, sketches, notes, reminders, calendars, small moments worth remembering. When your inserts are full, just slide in new ones. Every participant will leave with a functional, beautifully personal journal that’s entirely their own. This jounral doesn’t have to be just for travel; it's a companion for anything you want to hold.
The Book Artist as Naturalist

This multi-disciplinary workshop explores the botanical contact printing process (eco-printing) to create images on paper with fresh and pressed plant materials provided by the instructor and collected by students.
On the first day , students will learn botanical contact printing immersion techniques using dye baths on assorted paper and several nature printing techniques that don’t require a press. On the second day, the results will be used to create four books –- two non-adhesive no-sew structures, a multiple signature pamphlet, and a hybrid structure based on the accordion with pockets and sewn in signatures – all filled with rich visual content. Students will receive comprehensive handouts for all the book structures and nature printing techniques.
This workshop is perfect for artists, designers, painters, printmakers, book artists and non-artists with interest making books and in the natural world. Knowledge of basic book binding is helpful, but not mandatory.
Slim Case Bindings
INSTRUCTOR: Jennifer Graves

We will sew slim text blocks, create a casing, choose lovely book cloths and decorative papers, and finally case in our books. Each person will leave with a unique handmade book and the skills and resource knowledge to make more at home!
