TYPE AS IMAGE

Friday, June 21: 6 PM to 10 PM

with Janet Kupchick & Lorna Turner

Create Images & Creatures from Type! We’ll celebrate the longest day of the year by dedicating ourselves to a sense of play and exploration with wood letterforms as our elemental palette. Using familiar shapes of letterforms to create designs, patterns and characters is the goal of this workshop while maintaining focus on proper printing technique and principles of design (scale, repetition, white space, canvas area etc). Words might become an expression of their own meaning, but don’t they need not be limited by that. This will be a fun evening class to celebrate printing and perhaps to even be inspired by the elusive printer’s devil! Once our designs are set up, we’ll get busy printing to create a folio of posters to be exchanged with all of your classmates at the end of class. All levels welcome! $120

EXPERIMENTAL PRESSURE PRINTING

SATURDAY, JULY 20: NOON to 4 PM with Lorna Turner & Janet Kupchick

Come join the fun of a creative, experimental printing process! Pressure printing is an image making method where a backing sheet is positioned behind the sheet receiving the image, then rolled over and inked, type high surface. The image is created by a combination of varying backing sheet pressures impressing into the paper. A number of patterns and textures can be achieved via experimentation with materials of minimal thickness like lace, tape, cut or torn paper, and fabric among others. At the end of the class there will be a print exchange. This workshop is hands-on and very active. All materials provided. All levels welcome! $120
