Historic Sign Acquired
Curator/Director Mark Barbour recently acquired this circa 1926 La Opinión sign from their Los Angeles office on May 31, along with a large paper cutter and a Linotype. La Opinión is the oldest Spanish speaking daily newspaper in Los Angeles. It has been in continuous publication for over 80 years. They recently moved from the Los Angeles office and converted from hot metal to computer based typesetting and offset printing. Luis Garcia, IPM Linotype Operator Docent, pointed out that the sign had been chiseled out of a single piece of wood rather than having had the letters applied. An appropriate location to display the sign has not been selected as yet. |
